The Minister of Youth and Sports Jese Saukuru wants to see the national football team improve on its 170th ranking with FIFA.

Speaking to SUNsports yesterday, he said this is a must after other Pacific Island nations like Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and Papua New Guinea are now ranked higher than us.

“It’s about time that they (Fiji Football Association) should open up,” Saukuru said.

“We must get new blood to come in and do a little bit of organisation and restructure of Fiji Football for the betterment of the sport.

“It’s about time that they (Fiji Football) seriously look into that, Fiji Football needs to be re-organised and refocused on what they can achieve, “he said.

When contacted, Fiji FA president Rajesh Patel wanted all questions to be emailed to him.

Saukuru said Fiji FA executives need to put their acts together on how to grow the sport for the future of our upcoming players.

Saukuru said the Ministry of Sports is there to support any of our national sporting teams.

“We’ve allocated funds with the Fiji National Sports Commission.

“Those funds are there to support every Fiji team that leaves our country to go and compete overseas, “he said.

Saukuru said it would also be good to encourage more sporting developments in rural areas as well.
