Domestic repatriation put on hold as covid-19 numbers rise in the central division, says commissioner northern

Domestic repatriation is now put on hold for Vanua Levu, says Commissioner Northern Uraia Rainima.
As the number of positive COVID-19 cases continue to rise in the Central Division, Mr Rainima said they had collectively agreed to put on hold, as a safety measure, the repatriation of Vanua Levu residents currently in Viti Levu.
The first repatriation took place last Saturday via Nabouwalu, where a group of people who returned to Vanua Levu were now in quarantine.

“We have opened two quarantine centres in Labasa: Labasa College with 27 people: 9 Police officers and 18 civilians) and 19 Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) personnel in Malau,” Mr Rainima said.
“Apart from that, the quarantine facility set up is a trial run for Vanua Levu. Right now, we have seven people in home quarantine in Savusavu, while two are at the Wasawasa Resort.
“Out of all the hotels here in the Northern Division, Wasawasa Resort has given us the green light to use its facilities as a quarantine centre.”
He said they would review the procedures of the trial run and wait for the Ministry of Health and Medical Services to give them the green light for the repatriation.
“All Government ministries are providing support not only at the quarantine centres but the whole COVID-19 operations in the North by assisting the Ministry of Health,” he said.
To date, there are no active cases of COVID-19 recorded in the Northern Division.
