"He has been ill for quite a while now, and at this point we are just worried about his health," he said.
"The doctors are currently running some tests on him, and his family is by his side supporting him."
Aspiring politician Sandeep Narayan Singh has wished Mr Sayed-Khaiyum a speedy recovery.
As someone following current developments, he acknowledged that Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum is facing serious legal proceedings and that the justice process must take its course.
"However, as a fellow human being, I sincerely wish him a fast and full recovery as he remains in hospital," Mr Singh said.
"His medical condition should not be linked or politicised in light of the legal matters before him. In moments like this, we must set aside differences and show compassion. I pray he regains strength and health soon."
The incident happened almost a year after his application to travel abroad for medical treatment was denied by the Suva Magistrate Court.
A doctor who provided a reference at the time stated that Mr Sayed-Khaiyum had suffered from cardiac arrhythmia, which requires diagnosis and treatment by a cardiac electrophysiologist--expertise not available locally.
