Former Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says his focus is on recovering from serious health conditions, including a heart rhythm disorder and mini-strokes, rather than any return to politics ahead of the next general election.
Speaking to reporters yesterday, Mr Sayed-Khaiyum revealed he has arrhythmia, a condition that causes an irregular heartbeat, and has suffered transient ischaemic attacks — commonly known as mini-strokes — linked to dangerously low blood pressure.
He said the severity of his condition became apparent during a hospital admission.

"When I got admitted, my pulse was about 33," he said.
"When the pulse rate is low, not enough blood goes to your head. And you start slurring and stuff like that."
Mr Sayed-Khaiyum also disclosed he requires further treatment overseas for a kidney blockage first treated in 2023.
However, he said all his applications to travel abroad for medical care had been opposed by the Director of Public Prosecutions.
"I have my good days and my off days," he said.
Currently facing trial, Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said his priority was regaining his health for the sake of his family.
"If I'm not healthy, then I can't do anything. And I need to be healthy, first of all, for my wife and my kids and my parents," he said.
Dismissing speculation about a political comeback, Mr Sayed-Khaiyum denied any involvement in the formation of new political parties and said contesting the next election was not under consideration.
"I'll cross the bridge when I come to it – if I come to it," he said.
