Former Chief Executive's Case Adjourned

Former CEO of the then Fiji Commerce Commission Bobby Maharaj’s case was adjourned to next Monday to await a ruling.

Magistrate Jioji Boseiwaqa will determine whether the Lobendahn test is necessary to the case.

The Lobendahn test will determine the authenticity of some documents that will be used as evidence.

Maharaj is charged with one count of abuse of office.

Defence lawyer Devanesh Sharma said the court ruling was crucial to their case.

The State filed a response and applied to vacate the hearing dates.

It is alleged Maharaj while being employed by the Commerce Commission, which has now been renamed Fiji Competition and Consumer Commission, in abuse of authority directed an employee of the commission, without conducting an inspection to fill in false information to indicate an inspection was conducted of a trader and a verbal warning was issued against the trader for breaches under the Commerce Commission Decree.
