If being selected as a Teen Parliamentarian in South Australia was an indication for Neharika Singh, then the future looks promising for this former Lautoka student.

The former Natabua High School student recently migrated to Australia, where she was honoured to be one of 30 students selected to take part in the Teen Parliament programme in South Australia.

“I am originally from Sabeto, Nadi, and I am proud to represent my roots on this international platform,” the 18-year-old said.

She is one of 10 students who won a $10,000 scholarship for her initiative titled ‘Unfiltered SA,’ which focused on mental health awareness and support.

“This project aims to create a platform for young people to discuss mental health issues openly and access the resources they need,” she said.

The Teen Parliament in South Australia empowers young people to engage in the political process, develop leadership skills, and contribute to discussions on important issues affecting our community.

“As a member, I have the opportunity to collaborate with other passionate young people and work towards positive change,” she said.

“I had the privilege of meeting Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, and Opposition Leader, Peter Dutton, which was an inspiring experience,” she said.

Additionally, she served as a member of the advisory group for the Education Minister of South Australia, Blair Boyer.

“I am grateful to the CEO of Mitsubishi for sponsoring my journey, which has been an enriching experience.”

Neharika comes from a supportive family, with parents who have always encouraged her to pursue her dreams and make a difference.

“Their guidance and belief in my potential have been instrumental in my achievements.”

“There is a need to inspire young individuals in Fiji and encourage the Government to consider the opinions and advice of young people. Young teens often have unique perspectives and innovative ideas that can contribute significantly to society.”
