Former Prime Minister Mahendra Chaudhry has lashed out at Minister for Finance Biman Prasad for a statement he made in parliament last week.
During his deliberations Mr Prasad highlighted major improvements on the country’s economic standing with inflation that was five per cent in 2023 now down to 3.6 per cent in January this year.
He said that the impact of a VAT increase from nine per cent to 15 per cent on some of the household items apart from the basic 21 food items “was temporary”.

While responding to this statement Mr Chaudhry said the Finance Minister gloats about improved government finances with higher revenue, but it should be noted that was at the expense of imposing greater hardship on the Fijian people.
