The Fiji Revenue and Customs Service (FRCS) has intercepted approximately five kilograms of methamphetamine at Nadi International Airport in a major drug bust.

The seizure was made through coordinated risk profiling, intelligence-led targeting and thorough examination processes by FRCS officers.

Authorities said the drugs were concealed using sophisticated methods in passenger baggage, but were uncovered through vigilance and adherence to procedures.

The individual involved, along with the seized drugs, has been handed over to the Fiji Police Force, including the Criminal Investigations Department and forensic teams, for further investigation.

FRCS Chief Executive Officer Udit Singh said the interception underscored the agency’s role in border security.

“This detection is a clear demonstration of FRCS’s operational readiness, capability, and commitment to protecting Fiji and the wider Pacific region from the devastating impacts of illicit drugs. Every interception of this scale prevents harmful substances from reaching our communities and saves countless lives,” Mr Singh said.

He also highlighted the importance of collaboration within FRCS and with partner agencies in maintaining effective border security.

FRCS said it would continue to strengthen its operational capabilities and intelligence systems to respond to evolving threats.

Members of the public are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to authorities.
