The Foundation for Rural Integrated Enterprises and Development (FRIEND) Fiji has stepped forward to assist the Ministry of Health and Medical Services.

They donated Non Communicable Diseases medication to the Lautoka Containment area on Friday which were handed over to the Lautoka hospital pharmacy team based at the Girmit Centre.

FRIEND Fiji Director Sashi Kiran said every attempt was made to take the pressure off the Ministry of Health as they fight hard to combat the COVID-19 virus.

“This is also done to ensure that patients do not have to go without medication,” she said.

FRIEND runs a Telehealth platform for Lautoka containment area and has engaged General Practitioners to attend to calls from patients suffering from Diabetes, Hypertension and Heart disease.

“After consultation with the doctors on Toll free line 165, patients are able to collect their full set of medication from Girmit Centre where the pharmacy is located temporarily.

“If patients are unable to pick their medication due to transport challenges, FRIEND organises and drops them off.

“FRIEND has provided laptop loaded with Telehealth software and internet services for the pharmacy to complete the loop from patient consultation to medication pick up.”
