The Vodafone Festival of the Friendly North will be held at Subrail Park in Labasa from October 8 to 15.

Festival committee’s president Rajneel Maharaj confirmed that after two years the festival will resume.

It was on hold due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

“We are grateful to Vodafone Fiji Limited for continuing its support for over a decade now,” Mr Maharaj said.

“As usual we are planning to have eight to ten queens and four to five king contestants.”

The committee has been proactive in making good use of the 10-acre land bought a few years ago from the festival’s proceeds.

Mr Maharaj said rice was planted and about 15 tonnes of rice paddy was harvested last month.

“We managed to make a total income of $11,250 and this would be used to organise the festival this year,” he said.

It is the first time for the committee to engage in rice farming.

He said this was the best they could do to make money in order to recover two years of festival closure.
