From a small village in Kadavu to a senior leadership role in the Republic of the Marshall Islands, Sitiveni Naivota's journey is a testament to faith, perseverance and the courage to embrace new opportunities.

The 35-year-old from Kavala Village, Kadavu, has been appointed Permanent Manager Audit for the Financial and Compliance Audit Division in the Republic of the Marshall Islands.

With 13 years of experience in financial auditing, financial analysis and performance evaluation across the public and private sectors in Fiji and New Zealand, Mr Naivota has steadily built a career founded on hard work and continuous learning.

He holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Professional Accounting and a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting and Finance from the University of the South Pacific (USP). He is also a Chartered Accountant with the Fiji Institute of Chartered Accountants (FICA).

“I never dreamed of becoming an auditor when I was growing up, but once I entered the profession, my goal became to improve and grow every day,” Mr Naivota said.

“My story began in Kavala Village, where I started my primary education before moving to Viti Levu and attending Nabua Primary School. I later attended Lelean Memorial School and completed my secondary education at Nasinu Secondary School.

“After graduating from USP, I joined the workforce and began building my career.”

Mr Naivota began his professional journey at Fiji's Office of the Auditor-General as a financial auditor and later rose through the ranks to become an Audit Manager.

“In 2024, I moved to New Zealand to gain experience in private-sector auditing and broaden my perspective,” he said.

“Two years later, I felt drawn back to public service, which led me to my current role in the Republic of the Marshall Islands.”

For Mr Naivota, auditing is about much more than numbers.

“Many people think auditing is just about numbers, but it is really about understanding how organisations operate and identifying ways they can improve,” he said.

He credits his success to discipline, faith and maintaining a positive outlook.

“My driving forces have always been self-discipline and staying grounded in my faith. I often reflect on Ecclesiastes 3, which reminds us that there is a season for everything. That perspective helps me remain patient, focused and trusting throughout life's journey.”

In his new role, Mr Naivota will oversee efforts to maximise the efficiency and effectiveness of the auditing function while ensuring compliance with the Constitution of the Republic of the Marshall Islands, the Audit Act and other relevant laws.

The Financial and Compliance Audit Division plays a key role in promoting accountability and good governance by assessing financial statements to ensure they present a true and fair view of government operations.

Mr Naivota said he was grateful for the opportunity and ready to contribute to strengthening accountability and transparency in the Marshall Islands.

“If there is one lesson I would share, it is that nothing grows in your comfort zone,” he said.

“I chose to step into the unknown. Have I made mistakes? Absolutely. But I learned from them and moved forward. My mistakes do not define me — my resilience and determination to keep going do.”
