From Raiwaqa to Top Female Cadet

Growing up in a densely populated in Raiwaqa area fraught with social issues was a decisive experience for Ana Seru, who emerged as the top female cadet in the John Wesley College passing-out parade at Albert Park, Suva yesterday.
The Year Nine student said during the one-week cadet training, she endured the humid conditions while learning the marching moves, which she found challenging.
“I knew my upbringing was not ideal, but I strived for excellence every time I stepped into the classroom,” Ana, 14, said.

“I had no other choice, but the only way to improve my life is through education.”
She is from Naivucini, Naitasiri.
“Making sound decisions are something I hold onto, especially when dealing with peer pressure, which is something I was taught at home. Making good choices leads to positive outcomes.”
Ana dedicated her award to her siblings and her father, who attended the event.
“I’m the introvert in the family, and I hope this award will inspire my younger siblings to believe that they can achieve anything if they set their minds to it,” she said.
“My younger siblings, who are in primary school, want to join secondary school and participate in cadet training after witnessing my performance.”
