Frontline Need To Be Protected From Coronavirus

Workers on the frontline of the fight against coronavirus also need protection, a Parliamentary Standing Committee was told on Monday.
Dr Roman Chute of the University of the South Pacific made submissions to the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence on the Occupational Safety and Health Convention of 1981 and stated that the effects of COVID-19 will affect the global workforce.
“In terms of the challenges in the 21st century as we move forward, we see the effects of COVID-19 that is affecting global economies and that would come right down to the global workforce,” Dr Chute said.

“As a country and as institutions, we need to always put the protection of our workers who are at the frontlines of these COVID-19 responses in terms of our public services, airport workers, hospitality, health, education, emergency services, transport, manufacturing, agriculture.”
