Fiji Teachers Union has raised concerns about the risk that teachers face when going to school to provide worksheets for students.

General Secretary Agni Deo Singh said teachers were directed to report to school for meetings and there is a high probability of exposure to COVID-19 because of the physical distribution of hard copies of the worksheets.

Mr Singh said the use of social media should be the main mode of disseminating worksheets in the Central Division and Nadi containment zones.

“The collection of hard copies by parents and students, and then returning the same to the schools on a weekly basis will mean mass movement of thousands of parents and students,” Mr Singh said.

The union believes that this is in direct breach of the advisories issued by the Ministry of Health and Medical Services relating to minimizing movement.

Attempts to get a comment from the Ministry of Education were unsuccessful.
