Mosese Bulitavu has assured members of the public that his ministry will continue to provide the same level of response during natural disasters despite the impact of rising global fuel prices hitting Fiji.

During an interview in Labasa recently the Minister for Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management said the ministry was an essential service working together with National Disaster Management Office (NDMO).

“Fuel prices will not affect our services and delivery to the people. We are continuing with the scheduled programmes in our ministry and the recent fuel price increase has not affected our ministry,” Mr Bulitavu said.

“We are going with our projects on the ground which also includes the relocation plan for Nabavatu Village in Macuata Province.”

The relocation project led by Government will be completed according to schedule this year.

He said the Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has hinted some of the government’s priorities for the upcoming National Budget.

“Whatever comes, the ministry is prepared to work through it,” Mr Bulitavu said.

“We are hoping for an increase like any other ministry and we also hope that it will be a budget that is people centered.”

Members of the public are urged not to create any panic buying for anything, but to work together.
