Former Vice Chancellor of the Fiji National University (FNU), Ganeshwar Chand, has been appointed as the Vice Chancellor of Solomon Islands National University (SINU).

In a media statement on Monday, the university announced that Mr Chand had taken up the role.

The signing ceremony was held at Kukum Campus in Honiara, Solomon Islands.

Mr Chand is a founder of the University of Fiji and had been centrally involved in the establishment of the Fiji National University.

He was also Minister for National Planning, Local Government, Housing and Environment in 1999-2000 before completely retiring from politics in 2004.

The media statement reported that Mr Chand had also offered his advice on the establishment of SINU.

The university’s Acting Vice Chancellor Professor Prem Rai said SINU was privileged to have.

Mr Chand as its Vice-Chancellor and had full confidence and trust in his capabilities to take the university forward.

“I would like to assure Dr Chand that the entire SINU management will be behind him, and support him to achieve the best outcome for this young university,” Mr Rai said.

Mr Chand is the second Vice-Chancellor for SINU after Glynn Galo the first Vice Chancellor, resigned in November 2016 and the position had been filled on an acting basis since then.
