Hindu devotees all over Fiji celebrated Ganesh Utsav (arrival of Lord Ganesh) yesterday.

The religious occasion is to be celebrated for 11 days where devotees bring Lord Ganesh into their homes for worship and prayers.

Laxmi Narayan temple priest, Shastri Jayendra said the event started yesterday and will continue until September 1.

“This year the theme of the festival is ‘Ashta Vinayak Mushak Vaahan Gajanan Bhavva Darshan’,” he added.

“We will celebrate the arrival of Lord Ganesh with great enthusiasm.”

Mr Jayendra said that Hindu devotees would attend prayers at their nearest temple during this occasion and some will celebrate it at their homes due to the restrictions on gathering.

“This occasion brings togetherness among individuals,” he said.

“Devotees will also break their fast, by distributing food and sweets amongst themselves in the temple.”
