Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka believes it is not possible for the Great Council of Chiefs to be modernised.
He contradicted the sentiments of the Turaga Bale Na Vunivalu Na Tui Kaba Ratu Epenisa Cakobau, who claimed that the GCC should become more modern after 16 years.
Mr Rabuka stressed that the nature of the GCC as a council of chiefs established based on genealogy prevented it from undergoing significant modernisation.
