Give Respect To Earn Respect: Ali

Permanent Secretary for In­dustry, Trade and Tourism Shaheen Ali yesterday re­minded the student leaders of Lau­toka Muslim College, that one could not expect to be a successful leader without having a heart of servant­hood.

“To earn respect, you must give re­spect. These two aspects go together. And to lead successfully, you must learn how to serve diligently the peo­ple you are leading,” he said.

Mr Ali reminded the newly-induct­ed prefects of their role in keeping a holistic approach in all that they do.

“You have been chosen to lead, so do it with all your best,” he said.

Headboy Varinava Bola said he was excited about the challenges ahead.

“I'm ready for what the year brings. I have a good team with me and to­gether I am confident that 2018 will be a splendid year at Lautoka Mus­lim College,” he said.

Varinava publicly acknowledged his mother who was in the crowd.

“She has believed in me and has always reminded me to do my best. I owe her my life,” he said.

His mother, Margaret Naisani, said this was a proud moment for her. The single mum could not contain her tears as she hugged and congratu­lated her son.

“I am so proud of him. He has al­ways worked so hard and this is just a big achievement for us as a family,” Ms Naisani said.

Headgirl Faiza Nazhat Ali said she was eager to work with her student leaders to move the school to bigger and better things this year.

“I am looking forward to this. This is a good school and this is a good team of student leaders,” she said.

Her dad, Saizad Ali, said it was not a surprise that his daughter had been given the responsibility to lead.

“From when she was a little girl, she was always either prefect or leader in something and now today, she continues to make us proud by becoming the headgirl of Lautoka Muslim College,” he said.
