GMJ's Catering & Services Stand Out in Hibiscus Festival

The Miss Hibiscus Festival made a vibrant return this year after a five-year break, bringing a host of new marketing opportunities for local businesses.
Among the standout participants was GMJ’s Catering and Services, a family-owned business that seized the chance to promote its mission of fostering young entrepreneurship.
At this year’s festival, GMJ’s Catering and Services set itself apart with a bold choice: showcasing traditional, authentic food that was distinct from other offerings at Hibiscus Village on the Suva foreshore.

Their unique approach showcased their dedication to cultural heritage and nurturing future business leaders.
Fane Vereivalu, the co-owner of the business, said the Hibiscus Festival was an opportunity they were anticipating for years.
Family support
Ms Vereivalu said with support from family and friends, they decided to create and serve something unique to the public, leading to the inception of their “Traditional Authentic Food” concept.
“We wanted to offer something different and unique this year, as the Hibiscus Festival attracts people from all walks of life,” Ms Vereivalu said.
“We decided to involve our children, nephews, and nieces to expose them during the two-week holiday to how they can apply the teachings passed down from our elders on making money through traditional food.”
Through their family business and catering ventures, she noted that what sets them apart is their unique taste and affordable pricing.
Originally from Nukunuku Lakeba in Lau, Ms Vereivalu was determined to participate in the festival this year.
