Gold Medallist Acknowledges Elderly Parents

University of Fiji School of Business and Economics gold medallist, Ravikash Chand , is grateful that his elderly parents are still around to witness his achievement.
Mr Chand, 33, teaches at the Pandit Vishnu Deo Memorial College. Last Friday, he graduated with a Master of Commerce in Accounting at the university campus in Saweni, Lautoka.
The gold medal was for being an outstanding student in the School of Business and Economics.

On his graduation day, his elderly parents came from Labasa to witness his achievements.
“I am thankful that they came to witness their labour was not in vain. They have invested so much in my future,” Mr Chand said.
“We are not from a well-off background. My father is just a labourer.
“My father used to cut sugarcane to support my education, and his sacrifices helped me achieve my diploma in teaching. Their struggles continue to inspire me to excel in both my career and my education.
“As the eldest in my family, I wanted to set an example for my siblings, showing them that they too can achieve what I have.“Regardless of the background we come from, we can all make a difference by breaking barriers and reaching new heights.”
Mr Chand started his teaching career in 2012 at All Saints Secondary School in Labasa. The father of two attributed his achievement to hard work and effective time management.
“I have worked hard and managed my time with family, work with my studies. I acknowledge my family for their support in my achievements.
“I thank my lecturers for their guidance and support.”
Mr Chand said his master’s degree had opened up opportunities for him to teach at tertiary level.
