Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica announced that Google’s investment in Fiji will boost the economy by $680 million and create about 3600 jobs from 2025 to 2030.
Speaking in Parliament yesterday while responding to the President’s speech, Mr Kamikamica highlighted that the entry of Google and Starlink are “game-changers” for Fiji’s economy.
He added that these developments will enable young Fijians to transition to higher-paid jobs in the coming years.

“The BPO (Business Process Outsourcing) sector will continue to grow from strength to strength. At least four new BPO operations have opened the last 18 months,” Mr Kamikamica told Parliament.
He pointed to strong economic indicators showing Fiji’s rebound, with growth revised upwards to 3.8 per cent in 2024 and projected at 3.4 percent in 2025.
Foreign reserves currently sit at $3.7 billion, representing 5.9 months of import cover, Mr Kamikamica said.
“Investor confidence is high and the current investment pipeline is just under $6 billion and has the potential to grow to $10 billion very quickly if some of the recent investment discussions gain traction,” he said.
Mr Kamikamica also announced that 5G technology is planned to be implemented by the end of the year.
“Government is focused on economic diversification across Information Communication Technology (ICT), agriculture, aquaculture, value-added manufacturing, tourism, renewable energy, and the blue/green economy,” he said.
