Government Considers Return of Professor Ahluwalia

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka says he is ready to meet with the University of the South Pacific (USP) Vice Chancellor Professor Pal Ahluwalia, and his wife, Sandra Price.
Professor Ahluwalia was exiled by deportation after differences with the FijiFirst government.
His deportation created headlines across the region and a reshuffle in the USP governance and administration.

Mr Rabuka promised his Government would bring to an end the injustices suffered by the couple.
He said he would apologise on behalf of the people of Fiji for the way they were treated.
“Prohibition orders against Professor Ahluwalia were unreasonable and inhumane and should never have been made
“I received a clarification today (yesterday) from the Department of Immigration that Professor Ahluwalia was the subject of written prohibition orders,” he said.
