The Government has acknowledged the impact of rising fuel prices, saying it is working on measures to ease pressure on households and businesses as new rates take effect from today.

In a statement, it recognised the strain higher fuel costs would place on families, workers and the wider economy, particularly through increased transport, food and operational expenses.

“Government stands with the people of Fiji during this time and acknowledges the genuine hardship many will face.”

The Government said the latest fuel price adjustment was determined by the Fiji Commerce and Consumer Commission (FCCC), an independent regulator that sets prices based on global market conditions.

“This means that the decision on fuel pricing is made outside of Government, based on global fuel market conditions and pricing formulas. We all agree with the global fuel crisis we will expect shocks.”

Despite not setting fuel prices, the Government said it was developing targeted support measures to cushion the impact.

These include targeted financial and policy responses aimed at:
• Supporting low-income households
• Assisting businesses facing rising operational costs
• Maintaining stability in key sectors of the economy

Further details are expected to be announced soon.

The Government also urged Fijians to use fuel responsibly and improve efficiency where possible, while reaffirming its commitment to supporting citizens through global economic pressures.

“We remain committed to protecting the welfare of our people and ensuring that, even in the face of global challenges, Fiji remains resilient and supported.”
