Ratu Tevita Uluilakeba Mara, also known as Roko Ului, is set to be installed as the next Tui Nayau. The Tui Nayau title has remained vacant for 20 years since April 18, 2004, following the passing of the late Ratu Sir Kamisese Mara, Fiji’s longest-serving Prime Minister, who led from Independence until 1987. His ruling Alliance Party government was defeated in the April General Election by a coalition led by Dr Timoci Bavadra of the Fiji Labour Party and the National Federation Party.
Ratu Sir Kamisese belonged to the noble household Matailakeba. Initially, it was believed that Ratu Finau Mara would succeed, but due to his passing, Roko Ului became the next in line. Ratu Finau was the eldest son of Ratu Sir Kamisese.
