The 2025–2026 National Budget has delivered the long-awaited relief to thousands of Fijian families, with Government making a strong commitment to affordable housing.

In what many are calling a “budget of hope,” Minister for Finance, Biman Prasad on Friday announced a comprehensive housing plan that would address the deep concerns of families struggling to find secure, affordable homes.

“Today we have heard the cries of our people,” Mr Prasad said.

“This Government is committed to making home ownership a reality for Fijians, especially low- and middle-income families.”

The budget allocates funding to about 2900 residential lots and more than 1800 homes areas such as Nepani, Wainibuku, Wairabetia, Tacirua, and Veikoba and some other places around Fiji.

He said $15 million was for formalising six informal settlements and beginning work in four new areas, a move that will issue legal housing leases to about 1500 families.

First home buyer grant

A major highlight is the continuation of the First Home Buyers Grant, with up to $30,000 available for families earning under $50,000.

“This is a life-changing opportunity for so many,” Mr Prasad said.

“We want to help families take that first step into secure and dignified living. This budget shows that we’re not just building houses, we are building communities, restoring dignity, and giving every Fijian family a fair chance at a better life.”
