Education Minister Aseri Radrodro this week handed over a $24,000 boat and 40HP engine to the Saqani district and Saqani High School to boost access to education in remote maritime areas.
The donation, aimed at supporting both Saqani Primary and Secondary Schools, is expected to transform daily transportation for students and staff who rely on sea travel to reach school.
“For communities like Saqani, reliable and safe transport isn’t a luxury—it’s a necessity,” Mr Radrodro said during the handover ceremony.

The initiative is part of the Coalition Government’s broader commitment to enhancing education services in rural and maritime regions. By addressing logistical challenges, particularly in hard-to-reach areas, the government hopes to improve attendance rates and educational outcomes for students who face geographic barriers to schooling.
Education officials and community members welcomed the support, calling it a “timely and much-needed intervention.”
The boat and engine will help reduce the daily burden of travel and ensure that adverse weather or distance no longer interrupts learning.
The Ministry of Education continues to assess and respond to infrastructure needs across the country, with more targeted investments planned for underserved areas in the coming months.
