Government has acknowledged housing shortage and called for private sector and trusts to step in, as Koroipita expansion shows a working model.
Every Fijian has the right to adequate shelter, and the Government is working with organisations to address housing needs, says the Minister for Local Government and Housing, Maciu Nalumisa.
He made the remarks yesterday while opening the Koroipita Phase 4 housing units and the groundbreaking of Phase 5 at the Koroipita Model Town in Naikabula, Lautoka.

Mr Nalumisa thanked the New Zealand Government for its support.
“There is a housing shortage in our country. This responsibility does not rest with Government alone.
“We need developers, landowners, government agencies, and trusts like Koroipita to come on board and help provide decent and affordable housing for our communities.”
He noted Koroipita’s achievements, including providing homes to more than 200 households and supporting more than 950 children into employment.
Koroipita is home to many vulnerable families, including 57 single-parent households.
Model Towns Charitable Trust general manager Paul Forrest said Phase 4 involved the construction of 96 houses, most of which are now occupied following an application process.
