The Trustees of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have formed a significant partnership with the Fiji Ministry of Public Works, Meteorological Services, and Transport to bolster healthcare infrastructure in Fiji.

This collaboration focuses specifically on enhancing medical sterilisation services.

The initiative aims to revitalise the Central Sterile Services Department at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital, a vital healthcare facility serving Fiji’s population. This accentuates the Church’s commitment to humanitarian efforts aimed at uplifting communities.

During the signing ceremony, Ro Filipe Tuisawau, Minister for Public Works, Meteorological Services, and Transport, emphasised the significance of this partnership in strengthening Fiji’s healthcare infrastructure, particularly in the crucial area of medical sterilisation services.

“The Church’s contribution will refurbish the Central Sterile Services Department, highlighting its dedication to humanitarian projects that enhance community well-being,” said the Minister.

The contract sum for the refurbishment works totals $171,692.

“Under this collaboration, the Fiji Ministry of Public Works, Meteorological Services, and Transport will receive funding and materials to renovate and enhance the infrastructure of the Central Sterile Services Department.”

The project encompasses carpentry, painting, joinery, plumbing, and electrical work necessary for modernising the facility and accommodating new medical equipment.

Currently, the CWM Hospital operates with only one Central Sterile Supply Department, catering to various healthcare units.

The allocated budget covers expenses for building materials, labor, equipment rental, occupational health, safety measures, and unforeseen contingencies.

The church’s contribution will facilitate the seamless implementation of the project, benefiting individuals across Fiji.

Uraia Levaci, representing the Church, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to collaborate with the Fiji Government on this significant initiative, reaffirming the Church’s commitment to supporting projects that positively impact communities and enhance essential services like healthcare.

“The partnership between The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the Fiji Government exemplifies the power of collaboration in addressing critical healthcare needs,” said Mr Levaci.

The refurbishment works will enhance the provision of CSSD services to meet rising demands in the hospital and central division health facilities.

Furthermore, it will serve as a backup for CSSD services in the CWM Hospital and enable the refurbishment of the current East Wing CSSD to address demands from the operating theatre, emergency departments, and acute surgical and medical ward.
