Fijian landowners have been reassured that the Government will do everything it can to advance their interests.

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama, while speaking on Radio Fiji One yesterday, said landowners were an important part of Government’s initiatives especially land lease issues.

Over the last 15 years, the Government has made sure that landowners are fairly compensated for the use of their land.

Memorandum of Understanding

A Memorandum of Understanding had been signed between the iTaukei Lands Trust Board, the Ministry of Lands, the Ministry of Local Government and the Ministry of Economy to address the concerns of landowners.

Furthermore, the Land Development Vetting portal which was recently launched gives access for surveyors to see the state of the land and its value.

Mr Bainimarama said once the value of land increases, the land lease would also increase.

He also spoke about the removal of VAT (value added tax) on 21 essential items in the revised 2021-2022 budget and attributed it to Government’s commitment to serving the needs of the people.
