A family’s only hope for a better future is no more.

A grief-stricken Mohammad Imraz Sheikh made the comment at Mulomulo, Nadi, after receiving the news of the death of his eldest daughter, Nurainah Sheikh, a 19-year-old first-year medical student.

Ms Sheikh was crossing the road near Hoodless House at Brown Street, Suva, on Wednesday night when she was allegedly hit by a vehicle driven by a 26-year-old man.

She was conveyed to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital nearby, but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Mr Sheikh said his daughter was a kind and humble person who deserved a long and happy life.

He said she was a hardworking student and a good daughter, but more than that she had represented hope for her family
