A large crowd gathered at the home of the late Police Constable Dharmesh Krishna yesterday, as his widow, Ashmita Kumar, reflected on the many ways her family would miss him following his death while on duty last Saturday.

The 46-year-old policeman was struck by a truck carrying sugarcane while conducting joint traffic operations with the Land Transport Authority in Labasa.

“He had fatherly love and unwavering support. He was the pillar of our home,” Ms Kumar said.

Colleagues, friends, and family paid their final respects to Mr Krishna at Namara, Labasa during the funeral service.

The Fiji Police Force conducted its final salutations and presented the traditional sevusevu to the grieving family.

High-ranking officers in attendance included Divisional Traffic Officer (DTO) North, Assistant Superintendent of Police Lalit Vikash; Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Planning, Aporosa Lutunauga; and Divisional Police Commander (DPC) North, Senior Superintendent of Police Kemueli Baledrokadroka.

“Losing a competent officer so early is a painful experience not only for the grieving family but for the entire Force,” ACP Lutunauga said.

“We honour and appreciate the contributions of Mr Krishna to the Fiji Police Force.”

The late police officer was laid to rest at the Tuatua Public Cemetery.
