Head Girl Keeps Family Tradition, Head Boy Wants To Be A Doctor

Filomena Tuivucilevu kept a family tradition alive when she was badged head girl of Holy Cross College.
The prefects’ induction took place at Taveuni yesterday.
The 18-year-old originally from Togo Village, Qamea Island said her four older sisters were also head girls of this same school.

“My parents, who are ordinary farmers, are so proud of me saying that I have continued the family tradition and achievement,” the youngest of six siblings said.
“I was really surprised to be the head girl because there seemed to be more capable students.”
She wants to become a civil engineer because she believed there was a lack of engineers in Taveuni.
Newly inducted head boy Iosefo Vodo said he was also surprised to be named head prefect because his parents were simple farmers.
“My mother has big dreams for me and she wants to see me become the first doctor of Tavuki Village in Taveuni, where we live,” the fourth eldest of seven siblings said.
“I would like to thank the teachers for giving the opportunity to a farmer’s child to become a leader.”
The school has 50 prefects, 400 students and 35 teachers.
