Nanise Rabonu, head girl of Vunimono High School, was honoured with the prestigious Principal's Award yesterday during the school's annual prizegiving ceremony at the Nausori Hall.

The 18-year-old's journey to this recognition was marked by challenges and sacrifices, yet her exceptional leadership and resilience set her apart.

"Receiving the Principal's Award was unexpected, but I am deeply grateful," Nanise said.

"Leadership wasn't about standing above others; it was about understanding the diverse backgrounds of our students and staying true to the school's values."

She credited her family, particularly her older brother-himself a recipient of the same award in 2022-for their guidance.

"He taught me the importance of respect and integrity in leadership," she shared.

Nanise's leadership journey required significant personal sacrifices, including difficult decisions that sometimes strained friendships.

"Some choices cost me dearly, but I have no regrets. I am thankful to God and my parents for their unwavering support when I needed it most," she said.

Passionate about empowering others, Nanise has dedicated herself to uplifting her peers, particularly young girls.

"We live in challenging times, and too often, girls are undervalued. I'm grateful to inspire and remind everyone of their worth," she added.

Looking ahead, Nanise aspires to become a flight attendant, embracing the opportunity to explore the world and its cultures.

Her achievement not only cements her legacy at Vunimono High but also serves as an inspiration to students across the school community.
