The headgirl of Shri Guru Nanak Khalsa Primary School in Labasa has dedicated her achievements to her single mother.

Shaesta Bano is the first member of her family to become headgirl. She hopes to become a veterinarian one day because of her love for animals.

“My mother runs a restaurant in Labasa and has sacrificed a lot for us. I want to pay back my mother for singlehandedly raising us,” the 13-year-old said.

“I would like to thank everyone who has helped me to reach this far, especially my teachers and my mother. Without them I would not be here.”

The school’s headboy Vishayat Chand had a plan to reach the position he is in today since he joined the school last year.

“I was studying in Rakiraki. Last year I came and joined the school. I wanted to be the headboy. When I was informed I was to be headboy, I was not surprised at all,” the 13-year-old said.

“I plan to work together with the headgirl, deputies and prefects to continue upholding the standards of the school. I am the first headboy in the family and plan to become a doctor.”
