The significant number of people in Fiji affected by Lupus is a concern says Minister for Health and Medical Services, Dr Antonio Lalabalavu during the International Lupus Day in Suva yesterday.

Between 2017 and 2019, an estimated average of 44 females and three males were diagnosed with Lupus annually in Fiji.

Lupus is a complex disease that can cause a wide range of symptoms, and unfortunately, there is no known cure for it. The primary focus of treatment is on managing symptoms and preventing organ damage.

Dr Antonio stressed the importance of raising awareness about Lupus and educating healthcare professionals and the public about its signs and symptoms to support those living with the disease.

“It is a growing concern that we cannot ignore, and as a nation, we must work together to raise awareness about Lupus and support those living with the disease,” Dr Antonio said.
