A heavy rain alert is now in force for the whole of Fiji as a possibility of flooding in low-lying areas may occur.

Director of Fiji Meteorological Service Misaele Funaki said a trough of low pressure is approaching Fiji from the West and is expected to gradually increase, bringing heavy rain.

“We should be expecting occasional rain and thunderstorms this Saturday and Sunday and then it will gradually clear the group later on Monday,” Mr Funaki said.

Moreover, a strong wind warning is in place for all Fiji waters and mariners are being strongly urged to take serious caution and refrain from unnecessary movements.
