Heavy rain warning for entire Fiji Group as flooding risk rises

The Fiji Meteorological Service has issued a heavy rain warning for the entire Fiji Group, with a flash flood warning now in force for multiple low-lying and flood-prone communities across Vanua Levu.

Authorities say an active trough of low pressure remains slow-moving over the country, bringing persistent cloud, showers and periods of rain expected to continue through Thursday.


Flash Flood Warning – Vanua Levu

The Flash Flood Warning covers:
Labasa, Wailevu, Vunivesi, Savusavu, Bucaisau, Drawa, Nabalevale, Nakorotari, Nasekula, Batiri, Seaqaqa, Wainunu, Nasekawa and Taveuni.

A Flash Flood Alert is also in force for the rest of the Fiji Group.


Hazard

• Flash flooding due to isolated heavy rain.


Likely Impacts

• Flooding of drains and small streams
• Water levels rising over low-water bridges and Irish crossings
• Road disruptions
• Possible flooding of properties in low-lying areas
