Hibiscus Festival opens in Suva today

The Hibiscus Festival will run throughout the week with daily activities, competitions, and live entertainment.

The capital will come alive today as the 2025 Hibiscus Festival officially opens, marking the start of a week-long celebration of culture, music, and community spirit.

Festivities begin at midday with the opening of the Hibiscus Village, followed by the official opening parade at 3pm. The parade will run from the Flea Market along Rodwell Road to Victoria Parade and the Civic Centre, featuring contestants, the reigning queen, the Republic of Fiji Military Forces, the Queens march, and the Navy Band.

At 5pm, the official opening ceremony will take place on the main stage and broadcast live on television.

Minister for Local Government Maciu Nalumisa will officially open the event tonight. Contestants will then be formally introduced before a cultural performance by Suva Grammar School.

The evening program continues with a VIP cocktail event and the Queens’ Dinner, before the public entertainment stage lights up at 7.30pm.

Highlights include performances from the Manava Performing Arts group and Ciwa Music Live Band, ensuring a lively first night of the festival.
