Newly inducted head students of All Saints Secondary School in Labasa, Miriama Watikili and Mesake Cokanauto, have expressed their gratitude to their teachers for entrusting them with leadership roles.
Both were surprised by the appointments, given their humble backgrounds as children of farmers from low-income families.
"I wasn't a prefect last year, but I have always lived a disciplined life and assisted teachers whenever needed," said Mesake, of Korotubu Village, Macuata.

The aspiring police officer hopes to follow in his uncle's footsteps, support his parents financially, and serve the community.
He also credited his faith, saying it was his childhood dream to become head boy.
Meanwhile, Miriama, of Qelemumu Village, Macuata, is determined to balance leadership and academic success as a Year 13 student.
"Managing 485 students from Years nine to 13 won't be easy, but I will work closely with the student council, which has 90 prefects, to uphold school standards and improve academic results," she said.
The 18-year-old, who aspires to be a secondary school teacher, thanked her parents and six siblings for their unwavering love and support.
