Jeta Rabuka and Anare Ratulutu lives by the mantra “remain humble in all circumstances.”

The newly-elected head girl and head boy of All Saints Secondary School in Labasa said it was their humility that enabled them to reach this far as leaders.

Last Tuesday, as Ms Rabuka was badged the school leader, she thought back to how hard she struggled growing up at Nadrano Settlement in Macuata—getting on a bamboo raft to cross the Dreketi River to attend Lutukina District School The 18-year-old dedicated her achievement to her late mother, Kamakama Ramarama, who died of cancer in 2019.

The second eldest of six siblings wished her mother was alive to see how far she had come as a leader in school.

“When we moved to Vunivau in Labasa, this school was the nearest to home, so my father, a yaqona farmer, decided for us to stay so I could finish my secondary studies,” Jeta said.

Jeta aspires to be a nurse and vows to work hard to achieve her dreams.

Ratulutu of Muani, Ravitaki in Kadavu is the fourth eldest of seven siblings.

He is part of the Labasa football’s Under-19 team and is preparing to participate in the Coca-Cola Games in the track events.

“My parents are both teachers, and I always want to do something to make them proud,” Anare said.

“I would like to thank the teachers for their faith in my leadership skills, and I promise to perform my duties as required.”
