Labasa Hospital is now the only public hospital in Fiji to provide dedicated hysteroscopy services to women in Fiji.

This was made possible through Friends of Fiji Health (FOFH), a New Zealand-based charitable organisation.

Auckland-based Obstetrics and Gynaecology specialist, Dr Sunil Pillay, one of the founding trustees, has been visiting Fiji to conduct free surgeries and deliver training to medical staff since 2010.

Hysteroscopy is a procedure used to examine the inside of the womb (uterus).

Dr Pillay said they had carried out 20 surgeries on women this week and at the same time providing hands-on training to three gynecologists at the Labasa Hospital.
