Marist Brothers High School set a benchmark yesterday with its inaugural Marist Academic Excellence Induction 2025 at Lambert Hall in Suva.

Year 12 student Abraham Ictus was among those recognised after finishing at the top of the three Year 12 streams following the recent mid-year exams.

Originally from Wailotua, Tailevu, with maternal roots in Tiliva, Nakasaleka in Kadavu, Abraham scored the highest mark in the mid-year examination with 327 out of 400 marks.

The Year 12 science student proved that resilience and self-belief can lead to remarkable success.

“It wasn’t easy. Competing with other top students really pushed me,” Abraham admitted.

“Sometimes, I doubted myself, but I never gave up.”

Taking on the challenging trio of Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, Abraham found his rhythm through consistency and quiet focus.

“I don’t talk much, but I let my results speak for me. That’s how I lead.”

Asked what keeps him going, he smiled and said, “My goal is to make something of myself, not just for me—but for my family and my village.”

Abraham shares the advice he keeps close to heart and drives him to excel: “Don’t compare you to others. Run your own race, and run it well. In the end, that’s what matters most.”

“Take one thing at a time,” he said.

With a calm spirit and a determined heart, Abraham is carving a path of success, one exam at a time.
