We lost a great Prime Minister, a great Fijian, and a great individual to the Pacific.
Laisenia Qarase was such an optimistic and enlivening figure throughout his era that it was possible to ignore the overwhelming monumental challenges he gave himself. He tried to rebuild the broken heart of Fiji, regain the vitality of the free people, and set strong relationships with Fiji's international partners.
These objectives were difficult to accomplish and heavy with threats, but they were followed with nearly a lightness of heart, for Laisenia Qarase always represented another great cause for what Arnold Bennett once named "the perfect reason to send all of us on."

His policies had a freshness and optimism which gained converts from every class and country, and ultimately from the very core of the "evil empire."
Broderick Mervyn, the Coordinator of Ignite4Change has stated that many Fijian youths around the World are indebted to Laisenia Qarase as he understood his own way of thought. He had strong values, the right ones, I agree. He simply expounded them.
He was adamant when operating upon them. He was not dismayed or disoriented or confused as the universe hurled turmoil at the Fiji Government. He almost immediately understood what to do.
Throughout his tenure in office, Mr. Qarase stressed better recognition and influence within his own Fijian community while at the same tenure courting cordial ties with international countries tailored to his developing economic policies.
