Illegal parking fine jumps to $100 as new traffic penalties take effect
The increase is part of a set of amendments approved by Cabinet to strengthen road safety and compliance under the Land Transport (Fees and Penalties) Regulations 2000.

Motorists who illegally park or stop will now face a $100 fine, up from $20, under new land transport fees and penalties that came into force today.
The increase is part of a set of amendments approved by Cabinet to strengthen road safety and compliance under the Land Transport (Fees and Penalties) Regulations 2000.
The revised penalties also include higher fines for speeding offences and new penalties for failure to stop and weigh, particularly targeting heavy vehicle operators.

Under the new rules, the fixed penalty for illegal parking or stopping has increased fivefold, from $20 to $100.
Speeding fines have also been revised upward. Motorists exceeding the speed limit by less than 15 kilometres per hour will now be fined $50, up from $25. Those exceeding the limit by between 15km/h and 29km/h will pay $75, compared with the previous $40 fine.
Drivers caught exceeding the speed limit by 30km/h or more will now face a $100 fine, increased from $60.
Stricter penalties have also been introduced for failure to stop and weigh. A first offence will attract a $300 fine, rising to $600 for a second offence and $900 for subsequent offences.
The Land Transport Authority said the changes were aimed at improving road safety and ensuring greater compliance with traffic laws.
