A 43-year-old man from Kadavu, who is charged with one count of unlawful cultivation of illicit drugs, has had his case transferred to the High Court.

Ratu Tevita Lalakonakoro appeared before Magistrate Kaci Solomone on Monday.

It is alleged that on February 19, 2019, in Kadavu, the accused had 172 marijuana plants weighing 95kg seized from his farm.

Magistrate Solomone said the case was to be transferred to the High Court because of the weight of the drugs.

Magistrate Solomone told the accused that if he wanted to be released on bail he could file a formal bail application in the High Court.

The case has been adjourned to March 11.
