Increases Container Handling in Ports

A slight increase in container volume handled at Suva and Lautoka Ports were recorded in December last year.
Fiji Ports Terminal Limited (FPTL) head of corporations, Salesh Kumar said the two ports have performed well in 2023.
“The total volume handled at both ports in December 2023 were 12,789 TEUs,” Mr Kumar said.

Mr Kumar said both ports were able to meet the service demand.
This year, FPTL has plans to improve its port processes and systems for service delivery.
Focus this year is digitalisation and automation of other terminal functions.

Various initiatives have been implemented by FPTL to improve terminal operational efficiency.
“We wi ll continue to further strengthen this to ensure continual improvement,” Mr Kumar said.
“Investments in key strategic assets and initiatives will be pursued to ensure that we are energy efficient, and our operations contributes to environmental sustainability.
“Equally important will be our continued focus on human capital development.”
He said FPTL is well placed to meet the shipping demand in 2024.
A total of 22 container vessels are scheduled for January 2024.
