India Applaud Fiji For Hosting Girmit Day

The Indian government has ap­plauded the Fiji Government in declaring a Girmit Day – as a significant step.

India’s Minister for External Af­fairs, Subramanyam Jaishankar said Fiji’s recognition reflects the tremendous difficulties faced by In­dians that came to Fiji through the indentured system.

He said the sacrifices made by those who traveled miles from their home­land will always be remembered.
