Inmates' Hunger Strike Under Investigation

The Fiji Human Rights and Anti-Discrimination Commission (FHRADC) has confirmed investigating the case of two inmates who recently protested through a hunger strike at the Naboro Maximum Correction facility.
The investigation was confirmed after the Fiji Corrections Services (FCS) released a statement on Saturday explaining the reason for their strike.
The duo protested following a dispute over the handling of food supplies.

As an expression of their dis-satisfaction, the duo went on a hunger strike from last Friday demanding reinstatement of their previous roles.
Another statement was released by FCS yesterday confirming that the hunger strike ended on Monday evening with their medical team assessing the strikers’ health status.
FHRADC Commissioner, Pravesh Sharma said a team from the Commission was investigating the matter.
FHRADC in a statement yester-day confirmed that the inmates were receiving medical assis-tance and they would continue to monitor the situation.
