The former chief executive officer of Post Fiji Pte Limited, will spend a year and six months in jail for abuse of office.

Anirudha Bansod was sentenced yesterday by Magistrate Yogesh Prasad in the Suva Magistrate’s Court.

Bansod was found guilty of providing a false confidentiality and conflict of interest declaration for the tender process involving the design, development, and implementation of the Post Fiji Mobile Application.

The tender was awarded to TechnoBase IT Solutions PVT Limited, an Indian company with which Bansod had personal connections.

The court revealed Bansod communicated with a Vaibhav Deshpande from TechnoBase IT Solutions via WhatsApp, leaking inside information that ultimately led to the company securing the contract for e-Wallet services.

Despite being a first-time offender and expressing remorse, Bansod’s plea of guilt came late in the Prosecutor’s case.

Magistrate Prasad pointed out the offence undermined the integrity of government institutions, thus, did not suspend the sentence.

Bansod has 28 days to appeal the decision at the High Court in Suva.
